It’s a Red, White, and Blue Month

Many years ago, before starting Point, I was on the road doing an advertising brochure for a hotel in northeastern Pennsylvania. While browsing at a local newsstand I came upon Forbes magazine. Opposite the inside back cover was a page filled with quotes which I thought were quite interesting. I’ve been a subscriber for many years since and still turn to the back to see what the page of quotes holds.

Since I began publishing Point in 1981, I’ve always tried to include quotes, hoping some quotes, perhaps some more than others, would give the reader cause to reflect. And some quote might occasionallyeven bring a smile.

July, with the 4th, has always seemed to be the most patriotic of the holidays. Although May has Memorial Day (originally Decoration Day) and November has Veterans Day (or Armistice Day), they share their months with other holidays. Everybody knows November really belongs to Thanksgiving.

But July shares the 4th with no other holiday. In keeping with the above thoughts and the sense of patriotism the 4th evokes, I’d like to share with you the following quote from the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

My, my, my. Words well said and well worth contemplating, don’t you think?

About the Cover
Featured on this month’s cover is Fat Head’s.

This highly successful neighborhood bar and grill is located on East Carson Street in the Historic South Side of Pittsburgh. The brainchild of local restaurateur and entrepreneur Glenn Benigni, Fat Head’s opened in September 1992, almost 18 years ago. It was renovated in 2001 and an extended patio added. It’s uniquely Pittsburgh and wildly successful.

One sandwich on the menu, the SouthSide Slopes Headwich ($9.95), was voted one of the top five sandwiches in the U.S. by Maxim magazine.

It’s Pittsburgh. It’s on the South Side. Fat Head’s. Locals and visitors alike seek it out. You may want to also.

Meanwhile, welcome…and have a great visit.
