A Warm Welcome to Pittsburgh Welcome to Pittsburgh. I’ve said that many times during my years as the publisher of Pittsburgh Point magazine, in person and also through the pages of this publication. Just recently I got to say it once again to a businessman. He’s been here now for some six months and came from the City of Brotherly Love, Philadephia. I didn’t think it was too late to welcome him though. I think it made him feel good and I know It made me feel good to say it. He let me know he’s still an Eagles and Flyers fan but I’m sure it won’t take him long to root for our local teams, which he may be already doing. We do have some pretty good sports teams here.
Yes, Pittsburgh has some winning sports teams. However, there’s even more here to recommend the city. Pittsburgh is a leader in education, medicine, and fast gaining a reputation in high-tech and robotics. And let’s not forget the arts. Penn Avenue, with Heinz Hall, Benedum Center, and O’Reilly Theatre, where entertainers and shows of national and world renown appear. I once heard Tony Bennett remark during a Heinz Hall appearance that it was the best stage and had the best acoustics between New York and Chicago. See, it’s not just me talking up Pittsburgh. In fact, President Obama liked Pittsburgh so much he’s bringing the G-20 Summit here next month. The cover this issue features Hofbräuhaus, the newly opened establishment at the South Side Works. This Bavarian-style restaurant has one of the hottest bars in town. It’s not just for German beer and food, but that’ll get you started. For more about Hofbräuhaus, please see the Dining Review on pages 14 and 15. Well, that should do it for this month’s column, except for one more thing. Welcome to Pittsburgh!! A.
